It's official, the Audi A2 is set to return to the market in 2015 sporting an aluminum body and electric variants, all at a more affordable price than its predecessors. This news comes after Audi has spent the past few years reformulating a new A2 that retains the first car's technological specs, but at a more realistic and lower price. This second-generation A2 will still ride on the low-cost MQB chassis, but it will have an aluminum body.

The biggest news is that there will be electric and plug-in hybrid variants available as well. The electric version would offer a 150-mile range and will produce 75- to 110-horsepower. The plug-in hybrid, on the other hand, will be fitted with a choice of gasoline or diesel three-cylinder engines paired with a dual-clutch automatic, and will have an electric range of 40 to 60 miles. Launch time has been postponed from 2013 to 2015, but we're looking forward to seeing this new and improved A2 when it comes. Photos displayed are of the 2003 Audi A2.
