This Audi A3 Driver Couldn't Wait For The Shop To Open

Unexpected item in aisle 3!

The all-new fourth-generation Audi A3 is equipped with a slew of modern safety assists including a forward collision warning that uses sensors to warn the driver of an impending collision, giving them time to brake or steer to avoid the hazard. If the driver doesn't react, the system automatically applies the brakes. If the driver of this older second-generation Audi A3 had used this assist, this embarrassing accident may have been prevented.

As reported by Derbyshire Live, the driver of an Audi A3 in Derby, UK, lost control in a parking lot and crashed through a Sainsbury's grocery store. It appears to be a second-generation Audi A3 Sportback, which was built between 2003 and 2013.

Audi's Pre Sense technology has only been offered since 2011, so it could be an older model without Audi's front assist. Still, that isn't really an excuse for such an extreme crash.

The A3 smashed through a side window of the store and demolished several shelves, causing "lots and lots of damage" and showering the floor with glass and debris before coming to a stop in the pet food aisle. Photos shared on social media by Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit show the aftermath of the A3's unexpected detour into the grocery store. The Audi A3's hood is crumpled, the headlights are damaged, and the front bumper came off during the crash.

It's not clear if the A3 was totaled in the crash, but it will need extensive repairs if not. Luckily, nobody was hurt in the crash, so it could have been a lot worse. It's believed the A3 caused hundreds of dollars worth of damage to the store. "In-store cleaner required in the pet food aisle please," the Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit joked on social media.

Police are still investigating the cause of the crash and it's not known if the driver has been arrested or charged, but CCTV footage suggests a "poor standard of driving" in the parking lot is to blame, say authorities.
