You might think that, with a name like R8 Competition, this is a version of the R8 which has been built to compete in motorsports. Don't be stupid, of course it isn't. That's the R8 LMS, the R8 Competition is… well, it's faster, so there's that. In fact, it's the fastest R8 ever built; and with a replacement based on the Lamborghini Huracan most likely already in development, this is quite possibly the last R8 variant as well.

The R8 Competition has the same engine as the R8 LMS, a 570-horsepower version of the 5.2-liter V10. That's 20 more horsepower than the R8 GT Plus, and the Competition will also get to 60mph in just 3.2 seconds. Carbon brakes are standard, and the seven-speed paddle-shifted S-Tronic transmission is not only standard, but your only choice. There's a big carbon fiber wing, and the side blade are made from the same matte-finish carbon fiber. Only 60 of these beasts are coming to the US, and if you're just learning about this car now, you probably aren't getting one. But we're still hoping to be able to see one up close.
