And we even like the color.
First came the familiar hatchback and then the new Audi A3 and S3 sedans. And now today Audi has revealed the latest variant of its newly expanded A3 lineup, the cabrio. Like its predecessor, the new A3 Cabrio has seating for four, but it has grown in size that provides additional interior and cargo space. Styling wise, the cabrio is pretty much exactly how we pictured it would look and we're really digging the strong character lines above and below the door handles.
The soft cloth top is stretched over a lightweight kinematic mechanism made of magnesium-steel, and at the push of a button it will open or close in less than 18 seconds while driving up to 31 mph. Buyers will have their choice of either 1.4- or 1.8-liter TFSI engines that produce 140 and 180 horsepower respectively.
Those who prefer an oil burner can opt for the 2.0-liter TDI that's good for 150 hp. Audi claims that a 110 hp 1.6-liter TDI and a 2.0 TFSI will be offered at a later date. The latter engine will handle duties for the S3 Cabrio and will have an output of 300 hp. Depending on the engine, buyers can opt for either a seven-speed S tronic gearbox or a six-speed manual transmission that will send power to all four wheels. All told, the car tips the scales at a somewhat hefty 3,009 lbs. But still, that's 110 lbs. lighter than its predecessor. More details will come later this week when the 2015 Audi A3 Cabrio has its official live debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
