The Audi gearheads have been clamoring for is finally coming to the US. The 2020 Audi RS6 Avant is a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 wagon boasting supercar-rivaling 591 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque and it looks wonderfully badass. Audi already makes the best interiors in the business and the RS6 Avant is no exception. The RS6 Avant's upcoming US arrival is the direct result of customer demand – and Audi has a message for them: buy the RS6 Avant or possibly no more performance wagons.

Audi North America Director for Product, Technology, and Motorsports Mark Dahncke explained to us at Frankfurt that the RS6 Avant "is those demanding customers' last chance to get a performance wagon in America if they don't buy this one."

While he couldn't provide projected sales figures, it was made clear that anyone who wants an RS6 Avant can get one. Production will not be limited. Nor will dealership allocation. Those who have the estimated $120,000 asking price on hand can walk into any Audi USA dealership and place an order. Dahncke said it was repeated customer demand, some of whom reached out to him personally, that convinced Audi to sell the RS6 Avant on our shores in the first place.

As we all know, wagons are not exactly the most popular body style these days. Haven't been for years, but the RS6 Avant ('Avant' is Audi-speak for wagon) is aimed squarely at wealthy high-performance enthusiasts who are even likely to track it.

The also new RS7, in slight contrast, typically appeals more to "up and coming entrepreneurs" who now have money to spend. While the RS7's Sportback body style has proven to be popular, the RS6 remains the mystery.

With the amount of power, daily usability, and killer good looks the RS6 boasts, if people don't buy this car as Audi expects, don't expect any more new performance wagons in the US for a long time.
