Audi Proves Self-Driving Doesn't Have To Suck With New R8 Concept

If you have to give up control it might as well be to a R8.

The Audi R8 e-tron is practically a dinosaur when it comes to electric cars. However, now that autonomous tech is all the rage the electric R8 is back. The e-tron piloted driving concept was shown at the inaugural CES Asia in Shanghai, making it easily one of the most awesome autonomous cars ever made. Audi was mum on the details, but what we do know is that the self-driving R8 has a 456-horsepower electric engine, a 0 to 62 time of 3.9 seconds and a max range of 279.6 miles.

Audi classified the e-tron piloted driving concept as a "technical study," which makes sense given the lack of testing details, live demos or videos. It’s likely the automaker’s existing tech, albeit with some polish and a new gadget or two, was placed in the R8 e-tron. Still, it’s encouraging to see an automaker dreaming up electric and self-driving cars that don’t suck.
