Motoren Technik Mayer has been tuning Audis for almost 30 years, and its latest project is an upgrade program for the 5.2-liter V10-powered R8. The first change was aimed at releasing some of the supercar's latent horsepower, and with an ECU remap and new stainless-steel sports exhaust, the German tuner managed to boost output from 525 hp to 606 and torque from 391 to 413 lb-ft. As a result the tuned R8 has dropped 0.4 seconds off its 0-62 time, with the coupe managing it in 3.5 seconds and the heavier Spyder in 3.7.

Top speed has increased to 201 mph from 195 in both variants, while high performance brakes with massive vented discs up front and eight-pot alloy calipers ensures the MTM R8 can quickly return to legal speeds. Performance has been further improved by removing excess weight, the bulk of which was achieved by replacing the standard sports seats with Recaro carbon-fiber race-style seats, the lightweight seats saving 40 kg as well as keeping occupants firmly in place. KW customized its Variant 3 adjustable coilover suspension for MTM, which can lower the car by up to 60 mm. A front lip option is on offer for those that need to negotiate ramps and speed bumps.

For street use, MTM recommends its 20-inch Bimoto alloys wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires, and for trackday driving it offers 19- and 20-inch Nardo alloys wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup+ rubber. Both combinations of wheel and tire improve handling and grip, and along with a lowered suspension, also gives the car a squatter stance. This is further enhanced by an aero body kit, consisting of front lip spoiler, side skirts and rear spoiler. And for a final flourish, the MTM Decal set adds checkered flag graphics in a range of complementary colors.
