Audi R8 Decennium Celebrates 10-Years Of Audi's Mid-Engined Supercar

This rare special edition model makes an appearance at the 2019 NY Auto Show.

The Audi R8 has been around for just over a decade and in that time it has gone through numerous incremental improvements and is now in its second generation. It may have started out as a top-tier sports car but the latest V10 models have evolved into junior supercars that have the looks and performance to scare some very capable rivals.

To celebrate a decade of ruffling the competitions' feathers, Audi has introduced the R8 Decennium model, a run of 222 models featuring some unique features and an Ascari Blue example was on hand at the New York Auto Show for us to pour over.

Based on the recently refreshed R8, the Decennium Special Edition uses the running gear of the range-topping Performance Coupe, which means power comes from a 5.2-liter V10 pushing out 602 horsepower and 413 lb ft of torque to all four wheels.

Only 50 will be making it stateside and at a price of $214,995 they are $19,095 pricier than the Performance Coupe. For that extra outlay what you get are a host of bespoke cosmetic enhancements including a bronze-colored theme that you will find on the intake manifold, bespoke 20-inch wheels and on the stitching on the door cards seats and armrest.

You also get a number of Decennium badges and lighting in the doors that project the Decennium logo onto the ground along with the car's build number. Whether those details changes and the model's exclusivity are worth the extra money is open to debate, but seeing this Ascari Blue Decennium in the metal is definitely a stunner.

If you prefer a less extrovert exterior hue then Audi also offers the Decennium in Kemora Gray, Mythos Black, Floret Silver, and Suzuka Gray. Those wheels and subtle interior changes also help it stand out from the rest of the R8 range and it could well become a sought-after model among Audi fans in the years to come, that alone could make the 10 percent premium over the Performance versions a worthwhile investment.
