Rumors of Audi opting to put an electric R8 into production appear to hold true.
Having reportedthe Audi R8 e-tron project had been put on hold indefinitely, it wassubsequently rumored the German automaker was considering a very limited run ofcars. These latest spy shots of a prototype model undergoing winter testing addweight to that rumor. On the other hand, Audi could simply be testing itselectric technology for use in another car. Whilesharing most of the R8’s styling and looks, the powerplant makes way for fourelectric motors. These combine to produce 308 hp and an incredible 3,319 pound-feet of torque.
The result is a 0-62 mph time of 4.8 seconds and a top speed limited to 124 mph. A front-mounted lithium-ion battery provides a range of around 250 km and its ceramic brakes pack regenerative braking technology.
