Halo cars are pretty important to manufacturers. And as halo cars go, the Audi R8 serves this function exceedingly well. It isn't priced so far above the rest of the lineup as to make its badge irrelevant, and neither is it so rare that only car nerds know who makes it. It gives the four rings a bit of exoticism in the eyes of everyday buyers, which is ultimately the function of a halo car. And as such, Audi is justifiably proud.
