Audi has just become the first automaker to offer laser headlights on a production vehicle, with the special edition R8 LMX. The lights are said to dramatically increase night vision abilities, while offering an awesome look and the novelty of a brand-new technology. The LMX goes on sale this summer, and will be limited to 99 units, costing 210,000 euros a pop in Germany. The special edition will be offered in Ara Blue crystal-effect paint, featuring a black interior with blue diamond-pattern inserts.

The LMX also gains a special edition carbon-fiber spoiler, front lip, side strakes, rear diffuser and black high-gloss tailpipes. It will be powered by Audi's 5.2-liter V10 engine, making 570 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque. Power will be sent to all wheels via a seven-speed S-tronic transmission, and brakes will be fitted with red anodized calipers. Audi says the single laser module in each headlight can generate light that reaches twice as far as an all-LED headlight, a technology sourced from racing applications and set to debut at this year's 24 Hours of Le Mans.
