Abt Sportsline is displaying the concept at the Essen Motor Show in Germany.
Have you ever found yourself cruising down the highway when a police car pulls up behind you and flashes its lights and blares its siren? It can be pretty alarming, even when the cruiser in question is something as mundane as a Dodge Charger or Ford Explorer. Now imagine you're on the Autobahn and this is the highway patrol car pulling you over.
It's an Audi RS4 Avant, which would be intimidating enough on its own. But this one's been tuned by the Four-Ring specialists at Abt Sportsline, and converted to fire-breathing police spec – even if only in concept.
It's the latest project undertaken by Abt as part of the ongoing Tune It! Safe! program, and is being showcased at the Essen Motor Show that just opened its doors this past weekend in the western German city.
Now as it stands, and as excited as we may be about the arrival of the larger, more powerful RS6 Avant, the new RS4 Avant is one of the most tantalizing pieces of forbidden fruit on the European (but not North American) market. Think of it as a cross between the A4 Allroad wagon and S4 sedan we do get here, but amped up.
Where our S4 packs 349 horsepower, the RS4 boasts 450. But Abt has taken its RS4-R even further to 530 hp, with 509 lb-ft of torque to back it up. The tuner has also given it an extra water cooler and air intake, a custom quad exhaust system, and all manner of law-enforcement equipment – from the Polizei livery and blue strobe lights to the extra radio equipment on board. The wagon body-style makes it even more alluring, and would give the German police officers enough room to haul whatever equipment they need to bring along while chasing down just about any other car on the unrestricted Autobahn.
