Head of Audi Motorsport Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich was tasked with presenting the Audi RS5 DTM at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, the automaker's racecar for the new season of Germany's DTM touring car championship. As the technical specifications for DTM cars were frozen for 2013, the only significant change from the 2012 version is the name, switching from A5 to RS5 to better reflect its sporting nature. The face was also changed somewhat to match the roadgoing performance model's.

Trying to make the best of the situation, Audi's racing engineers still managed to optimize some 4,000 components in the DTM car. "Our technicians proved to be quite resourceful in the process," said a guarded Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich. Eight Audi RS 5 DTM models will enter the 2013 DTM, fielded by the ABT Sportsline, Phoenix and Rosberg teams and piloted by eight Audi factory drivers. Ten events are on the 2013 agenda with the new DTM season kicking off on May 5 at the Hockenheimring where Audi will once again challenge Mercedes and BMW for touring-car supremacy.
