Last year, Audi unveiled the PB18 e-tron concept at the 2018 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, a driver-focused hypercar that appeared to preview a future electric R8. At the time, it wasn't clear if the PB18 will enter production, but Audi CEO Bram Schot has confirmed the electric hypercar is going into production to serve as the halo car of Audi's E-ron range, according to a report by Autoweke.nl.

Production will reportedly be limited to just 50 examples. Unfortunately, no other details about the production version were shared, but the concept featured a solid-state battery and three electric motors that produced up to 764 hp and 612 lb-ft of torque, enabling the car to accelerate from 0-62 mph in around two seconds. It also has a driver-focused cockpit that can be switched from a two-person layout to a single-seater configuration for track driving.

The news was announced at Audi's Mission Zero event to mark the launch of the e-tron in the Netherlands, where the automaker also teased two new electric cars. A shadowy teaser image posted by the publication shows a compact electric crossover with a prominent grille, large intakes, sleek headlights, and huge wheels. According to the publication, Audi's head of exterior design, Andreas Mindt, suggested the concept will spawn a production model that Audi intends to sell in higher numbers than the e-tron SUV and e-tron GT.

He also said the e-tron's smaller sibling will ride on the MEB platform that will underpin several electric models such as the Volkswagen ID hatchback. The site claims Audi's crossover concept will have a range of around 186 miles and debut at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show in March.

During the event, Mindt also confirmed the production version of the e-tron Sportback concept will be revealed later this year. It's expected to use the same powertrain as the standard etron, which features a 95 kWh lithium-ion battery powering two electric motors that produce a combined output of up to 402 hp and 490 lb-ft of torque. This setup enables the e-tron to accelerate from 0-62 mph in 5.7 seconds and deliver a combined range of 259 miles. A new teaser image of the crossover posted by the publication reveals the production model will have slim headlights, video camera side mirrors, and a sloping roofline.
