Salespeople reported fake Euro NCAP figures for Audi R8 and A5.
Audi UK has gotten into some serious trouble in the local media, with a BBC investigation finding that local dealers were reporting fake Euro NCAP safety scores to customers regarding various company models, namely the never-tested A5. The story started with an R8 buyer who had been told by a salesperson that the car had gotten a perfect five star rating on NCAP testing. Thing is, the car had never undergone any testing by the European New Car Assessment Program.
BBC reporters called ten dealers to inquire about the Audi A5 - another model that had never been tested by the organization. Nine out of ten reported that the A5 had been tested, six of them claiming that it had received a five-star rating. The company responded to the BBC report, stating: "Audi UK wishes to emphasise that there has not been any deliberate intent to mislead on the part of its customer-facing staff where the Euro NCAP safety test performance of the Audi model range is concerned."
