Last week, Audi Sport confirmed it will reveal as many as six new high-performance RS models by the end of the year. Each model was shown hiding in the shadows in a teaser image. We won't have to wait very long for one of them to break cover, however, as Audi Sport has confirmed the first new RS model will be shown in early September.

In a Facebook post, the automaker has invited the Audi Sport drivers club to an event in Berlin, Germany, where the new RS model will be previewed between September 5 and 6. It probably isn't a coincidence this is just a few days before the 2019 Frankfurt Auto Show kicks off on September 10.

The mystery model has been shown in a new shadowy teaser photo. Audi hasn't confirmed which model will debut, but the shape of the car hiding under the sheets looks like the 2020 Audi RS6 Avant, which will join its S6 sedan sibling. Audi's media site for the event also mentions the new RS model being shown will enter its fourth generation, feature a redesigned exterior and interior, and offer a sporty, progressive driving experience. The taillight design and roof rails shown in the teaser image also look like they belong to the new RS Avant.

Camouflaged prototypes of the RS6 Avant spotted a few months ago have also shown the new performance wagon will sport an aggressive design, with an angular front grille, large twin oval exhaust pipes, wide fenders, and beefy brakes.

Powertrain details haven't been confirmed, but reports suggest the new RS6 Avant will utilize Audi's 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, tuned to produce 600 to 650 hp. Alternatively, it could use the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid's setup producing around 700 hp, which is a very exciting prospect.

Best of all, Audi USA executives have confirmed to us the next-generation Audi RS6 Avant will go on sale in the US by 2020. This will be a relief for enthusiasts, as this is the first time Audi's sports wagon hasn't been forbidden fruit on our side of the Atlantic.
