Audi Teases Q4 e-tron's AR Head-Up Display And Lavish Cabin

Electric Vehicles / Comments

The Q4 e-tron will have the largest display ever offered in an Audi.

It was just last week when our spies caught Audi testing a prototype of the Q4 e-tron, a smaller alternative to the regular e-tron SUV and Q6 e-tron previewed by the Q4 Sportback e-tron Concept. We also got a sneak peek inside the covered-up cabin, but now Audi has treated us to an official tour of the Q4 e-tron's high-tech interior and released new details about the compact SUV.

Measuring 15.1 feet long, 6.1 feet wide, and 5.3 feet tall, the Q4 e-tron is on the larger side of the compact SUV spectrum. Based on the MEB platform, the compact SUV has a 9.1 foot-long wheelbase, which is longer than most mid-sized SUVs. This allows for a spacious interior measuring 6 feet long, making it similar in size to a large full-size SUV like the Audi Q7, as well as a generous amount of storage space. With the second-row seats up, the luggage compartment provides 18.4 cu-ft of cargo space, increasing to 52.6 cu-ft with the seats folded down.

As we saw in prototype spy shots, the Audi Q4 e-tron's cabin will be technologically advanced. As standard, the electric SUV is equipped with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster controlled with a new two-spoke multifunction steering wheel and a 10.1-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system. Later this year, an optional 11.6-inch touchscreen will also be available - the largest display ever offered in an Audi.

Other functions can be operated using Audi's natural-language voice control. Activated with the voice command "Hey Audi," the system can understand questions and requests such as "Where is the nearest charging station?" Debuting in the Audi Q4 e-tron is an optional augmented reality head-up display that superimposes information from the driver assists as well as turning arrows, and starting points and destinations from the navigation system onto the windshield with a field of view measuring around 70 inches diagonally.

These elements appear to be floating at a physical distance of around 32.8 feet. Available interior colors include black, steel gray, Santos brown, or pergament beige. Nine equipment packages will be available including five for the base model and four for the S line offering different door sill trims, colored accents, armrest materials, and headlining. All optional interior equipment packages include white LED lighting or a multicolor ambient lighting package is available.

Upgrading to the S line adds illuminated aluminum door sill trims, stainless steel pedals, a black headlining, S embossing in the seats, a leather steering wheel, and S badges. As for materials, the interior can be trimmed in artificial leather or Nappa leather. The artificial leather is combined with a Dinamica microfiber material that looks and feels like suede but is made of 45 percent recycled materials. More details will be revealed when the Audi Q4 e-tron debuts next month.
