Audi To Launch Three New RS Performance Models This Year

Industry News

More than 20 new or updated Audi models are coming this year including refreshed versions of the A4 and Q7.

2018 wasn’t a very successful year for Audi. Deliveries fell by 3.5 percent compared to the year before, with Audi blaming the changeover from the NEDC to WLTP test cycle restricting product availability. At the company’s Annual General Meeting held in Neckarsulm, Audi reflected on its "unsatisfactory performance in 2018” and outlined how it plans to bounce back this year with a massive product onslaught, in what will be a "transition year” for the company.

This year’s most important model launch for Audi will be the e-tron SUV, the automaker’s first-ever EV, but Audi confirmed we can expect more than 20 new or updated models to launch in 2019. These will include refreshed versions of the A4 and Q7, as well as nine new S models and four powerful R and RS models from Audi Sport.

Audi hasn’t confirmed which S models will launch this year, but we’re expecting to see the S8 along with the SQ8, S7 Sportback and the S6 in both Sedan and Avant variants. The SQ2 facelift will launch in Europe in the first quarter, and the SQ3 could also potentially this year. Keep in mind that camouflaged prototypes of these models have been spied undergoing testing, which suggests they should break cover this year.

As for the range-topping RS models, a leaked product roadmap for 2019 taken from a presentation during the Q3’s reveal in Spain confirmed a new RS7 Sportback will arrive in the third quarter, followed by the RS Q3 and RS6 later in the year.

We still don’t know if any of these models will go on sale in the US, but the last RS7 was available Stateside so we would be surprised if its successor gets dropped from Audi’s US lineup. Other new models planned for this year such as the facelifted 2019 TT facelift have already been revealed.
