A couple of weeks ago we got wind that Audi was very quietly working on a car that we feel is long overdue. Supposedly that car is a Porsche 718 Boxster/Cayman fighter that would fill the slot between Audi's own TT and R8. Let's call it the R6, for now at least. No specific details are available just yet, other than it'll very likely be mid-engined (assuming the project isn't killed somewhere along the way). Rendering artist Theophilus Chin decided to take a crack at what the R6 could look like, which, in this case, is essentially a blend of the TT and R8 designs.

Ironically, because both Audi and Porsche fall under the Volkswagen AG corporate umbrella, the R6 will probably be built on the same platform as the 718 Boxster. The biggest difference, obviously, is that the R6 will feature Audi's signature Quattro all-wheel-drive system. So what do you think? Should Audi go ahead with this project, or leave the premium mid-engine sports car market to its Porsche cousin?
