2020 Audi R8 LMS GT4 arrives with refreshed styling and enhanced driving dynamics.
This week, Audi added a surprise new model to the R8 family: the R8 V10 RWD. Debuting alongside the new rear-wheel-drive Audi R8 road car is the R8 LMS GT4 customer race car, which has been updated for the 2020 model year with sharper styling and enhanced driving dynamics. Based on the facelifted R8 road car, the GT4 race car shares around 60 percent of its parts with its road-going counterpart and is produced at Audi's Neckarsulm factory in Germany.
Since 2018, the previous model has been a considerable success, claiming 17 titles worldwide in racing. Visually, the race car takes its cues from the production R8 facelift model, while the 5.2-liter V10 engine delivers up to 495 hp, which is sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
For the new 2020 model, the ABS braking and traction control systems can be precisely adjusted for the first time with eight different settings that can be selected depending on weather, track conditions and tire grip. The 2020 Audi R8 LMS GT4 is also equipped with the steering wheel of the GT2 racing version, which has two centrally-located rotary switches for ABS and traction control settings for easy access. Individual preferences can be easily and accurately selected before and after the pit stop.
Currently, there are 27 fielding opportunities in America, Asia, Australia, Europe and South Africa. Most comprise of full-season championships, but the race car can also be entered in stand-alone events such as the 24-hour races at the Nurburgring and in Dubai. Single-make races will also be held at the Audi Sport Seyffarth R8 LMS Cup in Europe and the Audi Sport R8 LMS Cup with rounds in Asia and Australia. In other events, the Audi R8 LMS GT4 will be pitted against up to 11 models from other manufacturers in grids of over 40 cars.
