If you've never heard of H2X Global, don't worry. The Australian automaker is pretty new to the scene, but what you need to know is that it focuses its energy on hydrogen-powered vehicles. We were first introduced to the company when it revealed the Snowy SUV, and that never really got off the ground because of funding issues, but now the firm has revealed a Ford Ranger-based pickup, and it too is powered by hydrogen. Called the Warrego, this new pickup is what the company is hoping will finally get it on the map, and with a solid product like the Ranger underneath, it could be just the ticket.

This announcement comes at a time that Lexus is rumored to be working on a hydrogen-powered GS and Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus has revealed a hydrogen-powered Baja truck. But H2X Globa's boss Brendan Norman is focused on his own company and has set big goals for the firm, aiming for high production volumes within a decade.

As for the Warrego FCEV, it is named after a river in Queensland and was never meant to see the light of day. Originally, it was built for internal engineering development, but the company says that customers showed interest in it. That seems to be true, as H2X says it already has orders from the Netherlands and four other European countries, as well as Malaysia and Australia.

Sadly, details are scant. The FCEV will be offered in various drivetrain configurations and with various body styles, including a double-cab. H2X claims a payload capacity of 3,307 pounds, which is a helluva lot more than a Ranger's best figures of 1,860 lbs. However, there's a trade-off: the power output of the hardy zero-emissions pickup is said to be approximately 94 horsepower. Fortunately, that number may be increased as development progresses. As for when the truck can be seen for the first time, H2X says that conversions will get underway next month, with demonstrations to begin in November and sales expected to begin in April next year.
