In just a couple weeks’ time, the 2016 Cadillac CTS-V will have its official live debut at the Detroit Auto Show. We’ve seen spy shots of the BMW M5 fighter testing on the Nurburgring, so it’s quite clear that Cadillac is targeting some heavy hitters here. And now we’re hearing that instead of the rumored twin-turbo V8 setup, the new CTS-V will acquire the Corvette Z06’s 6.2-liter supercharged LT4 V8 and will come packing 640 hp. The news comes from spy photographer Chris Doane’s Facebook page.
He’s apparently heard the inside word from somewhere. Nevertheless, this powertrain setup is totally feasible to pull off. All Cadillac had to do was some minor reengineering. For comparison, the LT4 produces 650 hp in the Z06. Losing 10 ponies isn’t a big deal considering how much larger the CTS is than the Corvette. If this turns out to be true, should BMW be concerned? Let us know in the comments.
