A live-action Barbie movie is in the works for next year, and with it, the legendary character gets a new ride. Earlier this week, Warner Brothers shared a teaser for the movie on Twitter that shows Barbie sitting in what appears to be a late 1950s Corvette. That's neat but far from unusual for the car-crazed character. The real story is the Chevrolet badge, where the "EV" part of the name is highlighted in blue, suggesting that we'll see some sort of restomod with an electric powertrain.

Margot Robbie stars as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken, now more than 60 years after the iconic mostly-pink-clad duo appeared on the scene as 11.5- and 12-inch-tall dolls, respectively. An electric restomod Corvette would be the latest in what has been an impressive run of cars for Barbie.

It all started in 1962 with an Austin-Healey 3000 MkII, and from there, her collection has included a Porsche, various Chevys, Ferraris, multiple RVs, and yes - Corvettes. The Austin-Healey was a pale shade of peach, but many of Barbie's other rides have been red or pink. A candy pink electric Vette would fit right in.

It's worth noting that Warner Bros. didn't share any footage of the car, so the cropped image is all we have to go on. It's possible that the car is a render or mockup, but it's equally as likely that Chevy or another company put in the work to build the thing.

Automakers love "tech-ing up" old designs, so there's certainly precedent. Ford rebuilt a 1978 F-100 pickup with Mustang Mach-E power, and the Hyundai Grandeur EV concept is an absolute delight.

As cool as it would be to see an electric C1 Corvette, it'd hardly be the first time Barbie's name has been attached to an electric Chevy. Mattel's insanely popular Power Wheels brand has offered Barbie-branded vehicles for decades, including several Corvette variants and Jeeps.

There's no doubt that cars are an important part of the Barbie world and vice versa, so it will be interesting to see how the movie portrays the car. Chevy's got real-world electrified Corvette models coming next year, so the film and a new car or two could debut around the same time. If you're a fan and want to see the first live-action Barbie movie for yourself, mark your calendar for July 21, 2023.
