The proceeds go to a non-profit organization to help teachers.
At its Palm Beach event in April, Barrett-Jackson is auctioning off the first retail production 2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray. The first electrified, all-wheel drive Corvette is VIN 001, and an all-wheel-drive model and 100 percent of the hammer price will go to DonorsChoose, a nonprofit organization "whose mission is to make it easy for anyone to help a teacher in need and to move our nation closer to where students in every community may have the tools and experiences needed for a great education."
The Corvette E-Ray is powered by a 6.2-liter LT2 with an electrical assist to ramp power up to 655 horsepower.
"In 2022, we had the privilege of auctioning the first retail productions of the highly anticipated 2023 Z06 coupe and convertible models for charity in Scottsdale and Palm Beach," said Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson. "Each of those sales on the Barrett-Jackson auction block were iconic moments in Barrett-Jackson's charitable history, and I can't wait to see the excitement in the arena that this groundbreaking E-Ray will surely bring."
The E-Ray is a huge deal for Chevrolet as it takes the Corvette into its electrified future and adds all-wheel drive to the mix. Chevrolet puts the E-Ray forward as a grand tourer, although it's set to be the quickest Corvette yet in terms of its 0-60 mph and quarter-mile times.
Barret-Jackson has now generated over $150 million through its auctions for charity, and E-Ray 001 will add to that at the Palm Beach event scheduled to run April 13 to 15. The 2023 Chevy Corvette Z06 VIN 001 sold for a whopping $3.6 Million in 2022 to benefit a veteran's charity.
It's hard to call if the first E-Ray will match or surpass that hammer price as, on the one hand, the Z06 is a classic supercar built for enthusiasts while, on the other hand, the E-Ray is the first of a big evolutionary step in how the Corvette is powered. When it goes on sale at dealerships later this year, the base 1LZ model will have an MSRP of $104,295. However, it will surely be marked up by dealerships.
