The reviews of America's most powerful muscle cars are coming thick and fast, and in this latest installment Motor Trend organizes a three-round bout for the Ford Shelby GT500 and Chevy Camaro ZL1.

Previous tests have demonstrated the ZL1's superior handling, but the GT500, with its additional 98 hp and 105 lb-ft of torque, is the winner when it comes to power and speed. To get a fresh perspective on the pinnacle muscle cars, they are first driven up and down the canyon roads of Mulholland Highway to see how they fare as every day runners. Next they take some hot laps around Laguna Seca with pro driver Randy Pobst, and then finish with a quarter-mile drag race. MT reaches an interesting conclusion.
