They certainly don't make them like they used to. This 1977 Chevrolet K5 Blazer Chalet was already a rare find when it launched, making it all the more special today. Today's Chevy Blazer is a car-based crossover as opposed to a body-on-frame truck-based vehicle capable of off-roading. If that's something you require, there's the full-size Tahoe, but a midsize equivalent no longer exists. So why was the Blazer Chalet special? Well just look at it.

This thing is a full-on camper for the road that's not anywhere near the size of an RV. Only 1,700 examples were built and this is No. 1,156. Oh, and it's all original with a numbers-matching 350 cu. in. V8 paired to a three-speed automatic transmission. All told, there are only 25,970 miles on the odometer.

The exterior received some attention two years ago with a professional repaint. Even the original striping and factory color scheme were duplicated. The spare tire, instead of being attached at the rear, is located in front of the grille, a signature trade reserved for the Blazer Chalet. But these are not the main reasons why we're so smitten with it. The attached chalet is what makes it so special.

This thing includes benches and even a small kitchen area. The roof also pops up for more space. If that's not enough, the benches fold into a bed. 43 years ago, this was a true luxury SUV. Currently up for sale on eBay, this particular model has a current bid of $12,000 though the reserve price has yet to be met. There are still a few days left of the auction but someone will drive it home very happy.

The seller claims the vehicle has the potential to appreciate in value though it's not exactly perfect mechanically speaking given its age. Still, it's the perfect road trip adventure vehicle that's also full of character. Chances are you'll never come across another one given its low production numbers and age. It's actually the ideal classic SUV/truck for anyone desperate to hit the road. Heck, you can still maintain social distancing guidelines and look cool while doing so.

Not all of America has been reopened yet, but this old school Blazer Chalet will take you to those far away and often hidden adventure spots you've always wanted to see.
