VW reveal the sporty potential of their diminutive new hatchback.
The future of VW's up! series has become clearer following the unveiling of the 3-door hatch at the Frankfurt Motor Show. In recent weeks we've seen the five-door Cross up! then the playful Buggy up! and now the GT up! concept has been revealed, which aims to distil the driving pleasure of the groundbreaking GTI into a powerful pint-sized package. A wide-mouthed honeycomb grille flanked by a broad bumper including brake ducts that contain wing-shaped LED daytime running lights give it a strong sporty face.
And just as the Golf is transformed into the GTI, the GT up! is given a sportier facade with extended side sills, black gloss-painted door mirrors and arch-filling 17-inch alloys. The exterior is complete with a deep roof spoiler, black diffuser and two chromed tailpipes. A nod to the GTI is apparent inside the car with blue-checkered anthracite-colored seats offset by a gloss-black dashboard and trim, and the interior is finished off with a chunky leather-bound three-spoke steering wheel. For now the GT up! remains a concept but given its favorable reception at Frankfurt it could face the production line. Only time will tell.
