The luxury SUV has proven to be popular.
Launched in 2016, the Bentley Bentayga represents the automaker's first foray into the world of ultra-luxury SUVs. Since then, the Bentayga has set new standards for opulent SUVs and has become of Bentley's most popular models, despite being less established than the Continental GT and Flying Spur. It continues to be a huge success for Bentley, as sales of Sales of the Bentayga increased by 18 percent last year.
Now, Bentley has announced the 20,000th Bentayga has rolled off the production line at its factory in Crewe, UK, four years after it debuted. Each example spends over 100 hours on a dedicated production line, where a team of 230 craftspeople meticulously assemble them by hand. Since its introduction, the Bentley Bentayga range has expanded with five variants and four different powertrains, including a hybrid version.
At launch, the Bentayga was offered with a twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter W12 engine producing 600 horsepower and 663 lb- ft of torque, enabling the luxury SUV to sprint from 0-62 mph in four seconds and achieve a top speed of 187 mph, and a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 with 542 hp and 568 lb-ft of torque.
Bentley believes one of the Bentayga's keys to success was the introduction of Bentley Dynamic Ride, the world's first electric active roll control technology. It utilizes an 48-volt system to improve the cabin stability, ride comfort and handling.
While the Bentayga is renowned for its exquisite interior, the SUV is no slouch in the performance department either. Currently, the Bentayga Speed is the fastest SUV in the world with a top speed of 190 mph, beating the Lamborghini Urus. In 2018, the Bentayga also set a new production SUV record at Pikes Peak after completing the famous 12.42-mile hill climb course in just ten minutes and 49.9 seconds, beating the previous record by nearly two minutes.
