Even the world's wealthiest like to let their hair down sometimes.
When talking about upgraded exhaust systems and a booming soundtrack to match, it's not difficult to understand the appeal for a sports car like the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 or even the Dinan axle-back system developed for the BMW X3 M and X4 M. But Bentley? The maker of meticulously crafted luxury chariots? It seems like a bit of a mismatch.
Nevertheless, Akrapovic has created a new sports exhaust system for the Bentley Bentayga SUV, which the British automaker says endows the 4.0-liter V8 engine with even more character. The exhaust upgrade is one of several optional accessories that have added more appeal to the SUV.
Bentley has divided the accessory packs - or 'collections', as it calls them - into four distinct options: Exterior, Interior, Touring, and Protection.
It's that sports exhaust that gets the most attention, though. The lightweight system has been fashioned from high-grade titanium and includes a muffler and a set of link pipes.
The two sets of sporty oval tailpipes are engraved with both the Akrapovic and Bentley logos, appropriate since the two companies worked closely together to design the system - it had to match Bentley's exceedingly high standards, of course. The exhaust system is said to be inspired by Akrapovic's work on the Pikes Peak Bentayga.
The four accessory collections offer further customization. With the Exterior range, expect add-ons like gloss black exterior trim and carbon fiber mirror cowls. With the Interior range, customers can enjoy the likes of leather-trimmed scatter cushions and bespoke luggage/golf bags.
The aptly named Touring range provides improved storage/utility options such as a Bentley roof box and ski/snowboard carriers. After all, this is still an SUV.
Finally, for the pedantic customer who wants his Bentley to be well cared for, the Protection range contains specifically designed car covers for both outdoor and indoor use, along with mud flaps and heavy duty floor mats.
But it's the Akrapovic exhaust system that appeals most and should provide the Bentayga with a racier feel, holding it in better stead against capable AMG- and M-badged super SUVs. As is often the case at Bentley, prices were not announced for any of the upgrades, but don't expect them to come cheaply.
