Bentley Reveals Exquisite All-Electric Concept At Geneva

Concepts

Just because it’s all-electric doesn’t mean it isn’t a proper Bentley.

The Geneva Motor Show is now in full swing, and while there are plenty of car reveals we were already expecting, this one took us surprise. What you're looking at here is an all-electric Bentley concept. This stunning concept car is part of the manufacturer's plans to infiltrate the luxury electric car sector. Called the EXP 12 Speed 6e concept, the luxury carmaker assures that an all-electric car won’t compromise the quality, refinement and high performance levels associated with the brand.

As such, you can expect Bentley’s trademark characteristics to be retained such as immediate, effortless acceleration and a grand touring range, rapid inductive charging and state-of-the-art on-board concierge services. The EXP 12 Speed 6e is a concept to show that Bentley is defining electric motoring in the luxury sector, with the appropriate technology, high quality materials and refinement levels you'd expect from a true Bentley. This concept enables us to engage with luxury customers and gather feedback on our approach," said Bentley Motors boss Wolfgang Durheimer.

An all-electric grand-tourer may sound contradictory with a limited range, but Bentley wants to redefine our expectations for a luxury EV. Customers will benefit from high-speed inductive charging to provide a range that befits a grand-tourer: On a single charge, an electric Bentley will be capable of driving between London and Paris or Milan and Monaco. Distinguishing the all-electric Bentley is a mesh grille that features a complex 3D geometry and smoked finish with copper highlights that identify the Bentley EXP 12 Speed 6e as an EV. The ‘6e’ logo also illuminates in a vibrant white when on the move.

Bentley says the EXP 12 Speed 6e is a natural evolution of the manufacturer’s design DNA with hints of a future design direction in upcoming models. Its muscular proportions and athletic stance hint at the high performance the car is capable of. The wing mirrors also act as cameras, with a sleek design inspired by stealth aircraft fuselages. Being a Bentley, the interior is suitably sumptuous, combining cutting-edge technology with high quality materials. The central console is hewn from a solid piece of elegantly curved glass encompassing a high-definition OLED screen, where all the on-board controls are accessible such as navigation, entertainment and climate control.

The passenger also has their own control panel on the front fascia with access to social media, email and entertainment. Also included is an infotainment system that can access real world services using connected-car Apps. Bentley hasn’t provided any powertrain details, but did say that if inductive charging is not available for the EXP 12 Speed 6e it can be connected to a mains AC power supply via the auxiliary charging point located behind the rear number plate. In the next few years, we can expect a range of Bentley PHEV models to hit the market as part of the company’s electric car strategy, including a hybrid Bentayga being rolled out in 2018. Let's hope they look as exquisite as this. Live pictures courtesy of Hampshire Photography.
