Bentley serves up another look at its luxury SUV.
After a single teaser shot confirmed Bentley was working on the "world's first luxury SUV" (along with Rolls-Royce, Maserati, Jaguar…) the British carmaker has served up a brief clip of its new model, which is starting to take shape. Bentley says the ultra-deluxe 4x4 will have a "sculpted, contemporary and distinctive design… combined with the exquisite and meticulous detailing for which Bentley is renowned."
The EXP 9 F concept is being redesigned by new design chief Luc Donckerwolke, not only because it was panned by critics across the board, but because Bentley wants it to hit a 200 mph top speed.
That means lowering the roof line and smoothing off the rear end to make the SUV more slippery, with underbody aerodynamics also receiving attention. In addition, new tires are being developed to sustain very high speeds and to be off-road capable. The Bentley SUV will enter production in 2016 with V8 and W12 engines at launch, followed by a hybrid variant in 2017. The carmaker revealed it has already received 2,000 pre-orders for the SUV without customers knowing what it will look like or cost.
