Ultra-luxury sedan comes with 530 hp and 811 lb-ft of torque.
Bentley has unveiled the Mulsanne Speed claiming its latest creation offers "the fastest ultra-luxury driving experience in the world." Look at the numbers and drool at the interior to see why. Bentley's signature 6.75-liter twin-turbo V8 has been dialed up to deliver 530 horsepower and – wait for it – a monstrous 811 pound-feet of torque, available from just 1,750 rpm. Apparently that sort of twisting power is what's needed to propel this sizeable sedan from 0-62 mph in 4.9 seconds en route to a top speed of 190 mph.
In case you were wondering, that's a 0.2 sec and 6 mph improvement over the base model that delivers 505 hp and 752 lb-ft. Not that the car's billionaire owners will care about improved efficiency, nonetheless Bentley has introduced cylinder deactivation on the Speed's engine allowing it to run as a V4. The carmaker has also recalibrated the eight-speed automatic to improve torque delivery, while adding an S mode that maintains engine speed above 2,000 rpm, allowing for quicker turbo response. A new Sport mode stiffens the air suspension and adjusts steering.
Differentiating the Speed from the standard Mulsanne is a new dark tint that features on the stainless-steel front grille, front mesh, headlights and taillights. There are four new body colors, twin exhaust pipes, and 21-inch 'handed' alloys, which have bespoke designs on both sides of the car. Taking 150 man hours and 14 bull hides to complete, the two-tone interior comes standard with the Mulliner Driver Specification, which adds diamond quilted seats and new headlining. The Mulsanne Speed will debut at the Paris Motor Show next month, with deliveries to start in the winter.
