Back in 2017, Bentley announced that more plug-in hybrid models beyond the Bentayga would eventually arrive. The following year, we got spy shots of a Continental GT hybrid. But since then, only the four-door Flying Spur has received the plug-in treatment, and it only happened last year. That had us wondering if Bentley would forget about a hybrid model altogether and instead focus on a purely electric Continental GT. After all, Bentley wants to go all-electric by 2030.

Apparently, such a drastic change is not in the cards, as our spy photographers have finally caught updated images of a Conti hybrid prototype, and it looks almost ready for production.

Some changes have been made to the body since the early prototypes were first spotted. For one thing, a round charger port in the rear fender of the driver's side has been replaced by a squared port in a slightly different position. This and various identifying decals confirm that we're looking at the hybrid model, but what about the things we can't see?

The rumor mill claims that power could be shared with the Bentayga hybrid, and this makes a lot of sense. In that SUV, you get a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 hooked up to a 94-kilowatt electric motor for a total output of 443 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque.

However, another theory is that the Volkswagen Group connection to Porsche will allow Bentley to make use of the same system found in the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid. With a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 and electric assistance, this Porsche product makes 690 hp and 641 lb-ft of torque. Figures like these would help attract buyers to the idea of hybridization, but it's too soon to make a call on how likely such a matchup is. As for design elements, we suspect that the prototype in these images is wearing a placeholder body, as evidenced by the '12' badges in the fenders. Then again, who's to say that Bentley won't offer a W12 with hybrid power? We'll bring you more news on this as we get it.
