Last week we reported on the devastating earthquakes that struck in the Emilia Romagna region of Northern Italy. Ferrari responded quickly to the natural disaster by immediately announcing plans to sell several cars and products in order to raise money to help the victims who have found themselves in dire straits. The auction started this morning on Ferrari's website and the prized item up for grabs was a specially-built 599XX Evo. It carried a hefty price tag of €1.3 million, though it is for charity.

The state-of-the-art Ferrari 599XX Evo features a performance package along with dedicated track-based research meant for the 2012-13 racing season.

For those in the generous mood but not mega-wealthy, the Italian automaker has made watches, helmets, racing suits and even the 2008 F1 V8 engine (for a €50 reserve) which won the company's 16th Constructors' World Championship. "I am sure we can count on the generosity of those close to Ferrari around the world who have always kindly supported this kind of initiative in the past. A terrible earthquake struck our region and the people we know, and together we want to help the families of the victims in this time of need," said Ferrari Chairman Luca di Montezemolo.

He continued, "We are holding an auction of some truly unique and exclusive items for all Ferrari's friends and enthusiasts to whom I would already like to express my heart-felt thanks." Hear the rest of his speech in the video below and check out Ferrari's official page for information on the items up for auction.
