Tesla revealed its Semi truck prototype back in 2017 alongside the second-generation Roadster concept. Since then, the Tesla Cybertruck made its debut and even a new factory dedicated to its production is currently underway in Austin, Texas. The delays plaguing the Semi and Roadster stem from a number of factors, mainly because getting Model 3 production sorted and the Model Y launch took precedent. But now Tesla is aiming to get Semi production up and running several months after Elon Musk announced it'll also be built in Texas.

However, Electrek says a new job listing recently posted by Tesla is seeking a quality control manager and a process technician for "Semi-Truck production lines" at Gigafactory Nevada.

Last year, Tesla acquired a second building near this Gigafactory and sources claimed its use is intended for Semi production. Does this mean Tesla has changed its mind and will build the Semi in Nevada instead of Texas? Too soon to say, but it certainly seems like at least some aspects of Semi production will happen in the Silver State.

Tesla has been aiming to get Semi production up and running sometime in 2021 and since the new Texas Gigafactory is still under construction and Freemont is too busy building the rest of the company's lineup, Nevada sounds like the only available option. Bear in mind this Gigafactory is normally dedicated to lithium-ion batteries and other electric vehicle component production.

With the sole exception of Gigafactory Shanghai, it supplies the battery packs for every Tesla vehicle. The Tesla Semi would mark the first time it built a complete vehicle. The Semi production vehicle, according to Tesla, will boast over 500 miles of range and carry a starting price of $180,000. A shorter-range 300-mile version will begin at around $150,000. It will be classified as a class 8 truck with 80,000-pound capacities.

Last November, Tesla received its largest Semi truck order to date, worth up to $100 million, from Texas-based Pride Group Enterprises whose main area of business is truck leasing. It placed an initial order for 150 trucks with an option to increase that to 500.
