We knew this was coming for some time and its full reveal is just around the corner. The Polestar 3, the EV-only brand's first SUV, will launch in 2022 and it's aimed directly at the likes of the Audi Q4 e-tron and Tesla Model Y. This latest teaser image shows the production-spec SUV covered in light camouflage. Its general design details are not difficult to make out and we see quite a few similarities between it and the Polestar 2 sedan.

Production will take place right here in the US, specifically at the Charleston, South Carolina plant currently tasked with building Volvos. "We will build in America for Americans," says Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar CEO.

Polestar 3 will launch sometime in 2022. It's a premium electric performance SUV that will define the look of SUVs in the electric age. It will also be the first Polestar vehicle to be built in America." It makes complete sense for Polestar to enter the premium SUV market because it's the fastest-growing segment in the US and is expected to remain so for the foreseeable future.

So far this year, Polestar says it remains on track to sell approximately 29,000 vehicles globally. That's not a lot compared to heavy hitters like Tesla and other major OEMs, but it's important to remember Polestar, as a brand, is entirely new and has just one mainstream model on sale right, the Polestar 2.

The Polestar 1 was a limited-edition plug-in hybrid grand tourer coupe. The upcoming Polestar 3 is by no means the company's last new EV. Polestar plans to launch a new car every year for the next three years. A larger sedan is one of the vehicles in development, previewed in part by the Polestar Precept concept. It's now embarking on a US national tour beginning in New York City.

Once the full lineup goes on sale, Polestar hopes to sell 290,000 vehicles annually by 2025. "From here on in, Polestar is all about growth," Ingenlath added.
