Porsche is struggling to keep the all-new electric Macan under wraps. Last month, a prototype was spied showing off its rear active spoiler, and now the electric SUV has been caught once again enduring some intensive cold-weather testing. This time, our spy photographers spotted the Macan prototype at a charging station, where it was encountering some problems that caused it to break down.

This is nothing unusual, as the whole point of prototype testing is to identify and resolve any issues before production begins. A few hours later, the Macan was spotted on the move, probably on its way to a garage for some maintenance.

Our spies went in to get a closer look, but the test drivers hastily covered up the prototype. Unfortunately for them, they weren't quick enough to prevent us from getting some revealing close-up shots, confirming that the electric Macan will have frameless door windows like the Taycan. As we saw on the prototype in the last test session, the headlights also resemble the Taycan's, but Porsche has taped them up to make them look larger. Porsche has also added a fake grille and exhaust pipes to fool us into thinking the prototype has a combustion engine under the hood.

We get a brief look at the high-tech cabin, which is equipped with a curved digital gauge cluster and a large central infotainment screen. Porsche's first electric Macan will be underpinned by the new Premium Platform Electric platform co-developed with Audi.

Porsche has confirmed the Macan EV will have a longer range than the Taycan, meaning it will deliver more than 227 miles on a single charge. Production of the electric Macan is expected to start at the end of 2022 before it goes on sale for the 2023 model year. Considering how successful the combustion-powered model has been, the electric Macan is destined to become Porsche's best-selling EV.
