The Ford Bronco has been a huge success in terms of sales, but the off-roader has been plagued with problems. Early adopters discovered a quality issue with the SUV's molded-in-color hardtop roof, resulting in delays as Ford replaces every roof. Unfortunately, its smaller Bronco Sport sibling hasn't been immune to issues either.

Teething issues for first-year models are not unusual, but the Bronco Sport has already been recalled multiple times this year to fix issues ranging from inadequate lubrication in the rear drive unit, missing or loose rear suspension bolts, incorrect front lower control arms, and a fuel delivery module that may leak. And now the Bronco Sport has been recalled for a fifth time to fix a problem with the optional moonroof.

According to a recall notice issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the glass may not have been bonded correctly to the moonroof frame on certain Bronco Sport models. This could cause the moonroof's glass panel to fly off and hit other cars or pedestrians, increasing the risk of an accident or injury.

To fix this, Ford is recalling 1,036 Bronco Sport models built between April 27, 2021, and May 25, 2021. Out of these, it's estimated that 233 models have moonroof glass panels with "inadequate adhesion to the moonroof frame."

Luckily, Ford is not aware of any reports of accidents and injuries relating to this issue. Ford first became aware of a problem with the adhesive moonroof bond in August 2021. After launching an investigation, Ford found four warranty claims were reported relating to the moonroof defect as of October 8, 2021.

Affected owners will be contacted by Ford from November 29 to arrange an appointment with their local dealership and have the moonroof glass date code inspected. If necessary, the moonroof will be replaced free of charge.

This isn't the first issue Ford has had with roofs falling off. Earlier this year, a recall in Canada was issued for the Mustang Mach-E for the glass roof potentially falling out. This was particularly embarrassing for Ford as last year it threw some shade at Tesla for the same issue.
