The Biden Administration announced Tuesday that a substantial investment from the private sector has been earmarked to increase domestic production of EV chargers to 250,000 per annum. According to a statement released by The White House, this will not only create an additional 2,000 jobs but also make EV charging "more affordable, accessible, and equitable."

This follows the substantial $7.5 billion investment that forms part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which will see the rapid expansion of America's charging infrastructure, particularly around busy highway networks and more rural areas. The majority of the investments come from industry leaders in the private sector, including Electrify America and Siemens.

The former has sunk $450 million into its charging network, with the investments supporting up to 10,000 ultra-fast chargers at 1,800 stations across the country. As per the official statement, this is more than the number of high-powered units available today.

Siemens, on the other hand, has invested more than $250 million into the United States and plans to manufacture one million chargers over the next four years thanks to expansions at several American production sites. Smaller companies are also credited for their contributions, such as ChargePoint's planned production line for Level 2 chargers. This will see the creation of 250 jobs and the manufacturing of 10,000 Level 2 chargers by 2026.

Once snubbed by President Biden, The White House also mentions Tesla's investments at Giga New York, where the company produces Supercharger stations. It also refers to Tesla's intentions to open up the expansive Supercharger network to non-Tesla electric vehicles in the USA.

"Tesla will begin production of new Supercharger equipment that will enable non-Tesla EV drivers in North America to use Tesla Superchargers," reads the statement. Finally, the country's best charging network will no longer be the reserve of Model 3 owners.

Today's announcements demonstrate how the President is catalyzing private investment to boost our domestic manufacturing capacity, enabling America to create a national network of chargers and create thousands of new high-quality union jobs building, installing, and maintaining it.

President Biden's commitment to electrifying the United States is reflected in his desire to create a more eco-friendly federal vehicle fleet. With ambitions to replace 600,000 ICE-powered vehicles by 2035, this is a major key to another emissions-related goal for the US government.

Those driving conventionally powered vehicles may feel a bit left out at the moment, especially in light of the exorbitant gas prices plaguing our budgets. However, POTUS has expressed a desire for the federal gas tax to be suspended for three months in the hopes of making life a bit easier for cash-strapped commuters across the country.
