According to a report from Autocar, the Porsche Panamera is set to receive a facelift in late 2023. This news is unsurprising given the number of times we've spotted prototypes testing, but now there is finally a rough date of when to expect an official reveal. The changes will be subtle, but it's expected that this will count as the third generation (internal code 972), not a continuation of the second generation (internal code 971) that's been around since 2016.

Porsche released the first Panamera in 2010, then gave it a facelift in 2013. The current model debuted six years later and last received updates in 2020. Now that it's been on the market for seven years, the Panamera is overdue for a new generation.

Under the hood, we expect the Panamera to mirror the changes from the heavily facelifted Cayenne. This would include a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 base model, a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 to replace the twin-turbo V6 in the Panamera S, a high-performance Turbo S, and updated E-Hybrid models with a larger battery and longer electric range. Reports claim that the top Turbo S E-Hybrid will also return, and all variants will receive power bumps.

Judging by spy shots showing center-locking wheels, Porsche may also be cooking up a hotter, track-focused Panamera variant. It could use the Turbo GT nomenclature used by the Cayenne, or these wheels could be a new optional feature. We suspect the former.

Inside, the Panamera should more closely resemble the electric Taycan. Spy shots show a completely revised cabin with a dash-mounted shifter, lower touch controls, air vents that are controlled via the screen, and a screen in front of the passenger. Some of these features, like the passenger screen, made their debut on the 2024 Cayenne. This facelift will ensure the Panamera is up-to-date with Porsche's other models with a fresher infotainment system.

Though the exact reveal date is unknown, rumors suggest the Panamera will be revealed in Q3 2023 before going on sale in the US in 2024. Porsche told CarBuzz it has nothing official to announce on this front, so this news is still unconfirmed.
