Porsche is pushing its electric car into the mainstream and attracting enthusiasts to the Taycan in fine style with a new short film. The Top Gear-lite style piece features the stars of the "Bill & Ted" movie series, Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter, as they take the Taycan through different challenges in Southern California. The challenges are part of a trip designed to show off the electric Taycan's range as much as its performance and ends with the actors drifting their cars on the skidpad at the Porsche Experience Center in Los Angeles.

The film is actually called "Going The Distance," although "Bill & Ted's Taycan Adventure" would have been far better - but likely even more expensive than getting Keanu Reeves involved. The trip starts in Santa Barbara and works its way down the California coastline with detours into the canyon roads for some closed-road foot-down driving. Reeves and Winter are also joined by race and stunt driver Tanner Foust in a Porsche 911 GT3 RS to test the Taycan's launch control and give them a benchmark for comparison. The highlight of that section of the video is Winter's face going from terror to exhilaration as his Taycan launches down the straight piece of road after watching the GT3 RS scream away.

The film is an excellent piece of work by Porsche as it aims to entertain and inform people. Porsche's core demographic of upper-income people in their late 40s and early 50s will appreciate the Bill & Ted-related nostalgia while Keanu Reeves alone brings serious star power to the cause. The German sports car maker will follow up its social media marketing effort with a five-episode series starring Bill Nye, the "Science Guy," next month. Those videos will be more in-depth as he explains the engineering behind battery-powered vehicles.
