BMW 2 Series Test Mule Spotted

Spy Shots

The BMW 1 Series coupe and cabrio as we know it will soon transform into the 2 Series when the next-gen model arrives.

In case anyone hasn't gotten the memo, BMW is in the midst of making changes to its numerical naming scheme for several models in its lineup. The changes affect both existing and upcoming new models, an example of which is that the former 3 Series Coupe/Cabrio will become the 4 Series. The car we know as the 1 Series Coupe and Cabrio will soon morph into the 2 Series, which has been spotted for the first time by our intrepid spy photographers.

Based on the current 1 Series hatchback that's been on sale for several months now in Europe, the upcoming 2 Series will also be sold in the US where we can also likely expect it to one day become the replacement for the now discontinued 1 Series M Coupe. The most likely name: M2. Although that high-performance model is still some time off, for now you can check out this 2 Series Cabrio test mule caught testing on public roads for the very first time.
