All-new for 2011, the 5 Series often sets the benchmark design direction for the automaker. The outgoing model, designed by Chris Bangle, was controversial with its flame surfacing theme and "Bangle Butt" rear-end. BMW has a history of taking a very different approach to its cars and then reverting back to a more traditional design in the next generation. The latest model is a more conservative approach, but not without displaying a sleek exterior.
The interior is also significant in that it marks the return of the infamous BMW theme of the center console being angled towards the driver. Final pricing hasn't been announced yet, but expect it to be in the neighborhood of the previous model, starting at around $42,000.
