BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo Creates New Segment

Industry News

Every once in a while, an automaker will create something so unique and revolutionary, a new automotive niche is created. This is exactly the case for the 5 Series Gran Turismo. The interesting feature lies at the rear where a standard lid opens to reveal the trunk. This can then be further opened to reveal a double-pane liftgate, much like a 3 or 5 door hatchback, thus creating full access to the entire car.

While its looks similar to the 5 Series sedan, the Gran Turismo has a more elevated appearance. It quite could become the future for sport utility wagons. The closest competitor will most likely be the Acura ZDX which offers a similar configuration.
