The BMW XM Concept debuted last month with a bold design that is dividing BMW M enthusiasts. BMW's first standalone model since the beloved M1, the production XM will look nearly identical to the concept, so don't get your hopes up of the exterior design being toned down.

There is, however, another high-performance BMW full-size SUV you may want to consider: the Alpina XB7. Based on the X7, the Alpina XB7 is fully endorsed by BMW and effectively fills the void of a full-fat X7 M. With its bigger brakes and quad exhaust system, the XB7 already looks more aggressive than the standard SUV, but one owner wanted to make it look even better.

After their XB7 was delivered to the dealership a couple of weeks ago, the owner took it to Black Star Distribution in Buffalo Grove, Illinois, for a cosmetic makeover. The changes are subtle, but they give the Alpina XB7 a meaner look. Black chrome accents adorn the bodywork in contrast to the Alpina Blue exterior, while the front and rear BMW badges have been tinted and the grille is blacked-out. In addition, the front and rear reflectors were removed and color matched with the bodywork.

The XB7's standard 21-inch alloy wheels were also replaced with gloss black 22-inch Vossen wheels with Pirelli Scorpion tires.

Other modifications include a ceramic coating to protect the paintwork, tinted windows, and a 4K dash camera. No modifications were made under the hood, however, but the XB7 is hardly underpowered. Under the hood is a 4.4-liter V8 producing 612 hp and 590 lb-ft, up from 523 hp and 553 lb-ft in the X7 M50i.

Spy shots have shown the Alpina XB7 is getting a refresh. As part of a mid-cycle facelift, the sporty SUV will be updated with redesigned headlights. We suspect it will be popular as demand has been so high that the XB7 sold out for the 2020 model year.
