Expanding Spartanburg plant to accommodate large SUV and other crossovers.
Just a few days ago, we reported on some rumorsregarding BMW’s plans to build a large, line-topping SUV, probably a three-row modelto be called the X7. Now, the Wall Street Journal is reporting that the companyhas already begun a massive expansion of its Spartanburg, South Carolina plant to make wayfor the large, Mercedes-Benz GL-fighting car. The X7 would join the X3, X4 andX5 which are already built at the SC plant.
Meanwhile, BMW still hasn't released any informationregarding the X7, which we estimate would be offered with an engine line including a turbocharged six-cylinder, a V8 and a possibly a diesel. With a big announcementplanned for March 28, we hope to have some answers from BMW regarding thesequestions.
