It'll likely turn out to be a three-door variant of the also upcoming X2.
We’ve known for some time now that BMW is planning to expand its crossover lineup. What began with the X6 has now morphed into the X4. And pretty soon there’s going to be an X2, which will be built on the next-generation X1’s platform. And now BMW Blog is reporting that the German automaker has recently trademarked the name "X2 Sport." The X2 itself will go on sale sometime in 2017, but so far there’s no word yet when the X2 Sport will arrive. So you must be asking yourself by now what exactly is an X2 Sport?
BMW isn’t giving away answers just yet, but speculation points towards a three -door variant of the X2. If that turns out to be true, it’ll likely feature an even more sloped roofline and edgier wheel arches. Like the X2 and X1, it’ll come with standard front-wheel-drive and optional all-wheel-drive. Three-and four-cylinder engines will likely be on offer, and European buyers will surely have a diesel option as well. Also expect to see an eventual plug-in hybrid version. Just how much will the X2 Sport differ from the X2? We’ll just have to wait and see.
