The BMW M3 Competition is one of the most riveting sports sedans in recent memory. Controversial grille aside, we like the latest generation of the M3 and found it incisive compared to its rivals from Audi and Mercedes-Benz. But to ask the question of German tuning houses, how do you improve it?

This isn't the first time we've seen the latest M3 get a tuneup. But Manhart has gone further in boosting the engine with more power thanks to an auxiliary control unit. That and other adjustments to the car mean it now has a new name.

With the auxiliary control unit in place, the Manhart MH3 GTR will now produce 641 horsepower and 590 lb-ft from the 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline-six. For reference, a stock BMW M3 Competition's engine produces 503 hp and 479 lb-ft, showing a massive improvement.

In addition to the power bump, the MH3 GTR benefits from a new stainless steel exhaust setup with a valve control that can be finished in either a carbon or ceramic coating. There are also a couple of lowered suspension kits available, branded 20-inch wheels on Michelin Cup 2 tires, and a few catalytic converter options for export outside of Germany.

The rest of the car is carbon fiber galore, from the Recaro bucket seats to aero trim pieces that include the front splitter, rear splitter, side skirts, and the diffuser. A decal set is available to tell your friends that Manhart has tuned your M3.

We've seen Manhart tune the G80 M3 before, but it's clear that the S58 BMW engine had more potential, should you decide to go for the more significant upgrade. Given that 708 hp was possible in the last M4, we sense that the tuning house isn't stopping yet. Not when the M3 CS is coming soon.

But unlike other tuners, Manhart's specialty isn't limited to just BMW. Their portfolio shows upgrade kits made available for Land Rover, Volkswagen, and Bentley.
