The latest spy shots of the upcoming BMW M4 coupe testing at the Nurburgring confirm the car is reaching the final stages of development. Distinguishing the M4 from the stock 4 Series is a new front bumper with the M division's traditional trio of low-set air intakes and power-dome hood. Gold-tone calipers behind the sporty alloys suggest this pre-production model is wearing carbon ceramic brakes. And that covered roof is hiding a carbon-fiber panel like the outgoing M3. Other M4 design cues include the quad exhaust, wider side skirts and a restyled bootlid.

The M4 coupe, along with its M3 sedan sibling, will be powered by a twin- or triple-turbocharged 3.2-liter straight-six, managing in region of 450 horsepower. Expect the new M3 sedan to debut at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, with the M4 coupe to arrive sometime after the release of the new 4 Series, perhaps as late as 2014.
