BMW has improved its 2014 M5 sedan and M6 lineup by giving the former a styling update and both can now be had with the Competition Package.
Along with the rest of the 5 Series family lineup, BMW has also unveiled the facelifted 2014 M5 high-performance sedan along with a new Competition Package that’s also available on the M6 lineup. The M5’s exterior has received minimal updates, mainly limited to a slightly restyled kidney grille that now features the M5 model designation and the double-spoke design of the M alloy wheels. Adaptive LED headlights are now optional the LED taillights a bit thinner than before.
The interior features a new three-spoke M leather steering wheel and like the rest of the 5 Series, the M5 also has the latest version of the iDrive4.2 Navigation system which features a touchpad surface and chrome trim on the sides. There’s also increased volume in the storage compartment under the armrest. No changes have been to the M5 and M6's 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 but there is a newly added bonus for enthusiasts. In addition to being offered on the facelifted M5, BMW’s new Competition Package is also available on the M6 coupe, convertible and Grand Coupe. This setup increases output by 15 horsepower for a total of 575 hp.
Performance is also slightly boosted with 0.1 seconds being shaved off the 0-62 mph time and 0.2 seconds from the 0-124 mph acceleration. Driving dynamics have also been enhanced thanks to new coil springs and damper calibrations, stiffened anti-sway bars, and a 10 mm lowered ride height. The standard Active M Differential and rack-and-pinion steering have also been retuned and the M Dynamic Mode has been remapped. The package also adds unique 20" wheels and a sport exhaust system. Final pricing hasn’t been released but sales of the refreshed M5 and the Competition Package are expected to begin later this summer.
